The mind is capable of being as intricate or as simple as required.
Some make no distinction between - quid pro quo, tit for tat, equal and opposite reaction, and, when push comes to shove – seeing them as synonymous. Others see each one as distinctive and different from all the others.
The mind of a genius can love simplicity more than anything, or the mind of a dysfunctional misfit can be enthralled by complexity.
Many different factors are present in each different equation/situation in the mind i.e. context, environment, DNA, age, sex, time of day, etc ad in fin i tum ---
We each realize, at some level, that our own mind is subjective and easily influenced by all manner of variables.
When it comes to our perception of the mind and thinking of another; we expect/assume/demand/require -precision and consistency –in line with our own mind and thinking, and take it for granted that communication requires this continuity of thought.
A lawyer friend of mine is wont to make such a statement and follow it immediately by the rhetorical question “Fair enough?” Without pausing for any reply before proceeding to his next sentence.
Polite English SOCIETY would call that “BALDERDASH!”
